Open Question: Is it wrong of me to feel jealous?

I've been going out with this girl for almost a month now. Recently I've been thinking about how much she actually meant to me and I've realized that I love her and she says that she loves me too. She's written me poems and sent me risque texts and my name is all over her myspace. Just about a week ago she said that her ex's cousin was hitting on her and stuff and my response to that was: "What do you want me to do about it?". I mean I really can't do anything because he lives in a different city but she said that he was coming down. Well anyways there's a huge soccer tournament every year where he lives (I mean people from all over the country come for this) She told me that she made a bet with him and that if he lost he would have to carry her across the entire length of the soccer field and buy her something to eat and the same goes for her if she lost except she would have to carry him. She said that she was gonna beg her mom to let her go. She's begging her mom to let her go to another town to see another guy!!! Now I ask you all, is it wrong that I feel jealous?? I don't want to be the overprotective boyfriend or the guy who doesn't let his girlfriend talk with other guys but do you think she's going a little bit too far with this?? more

Resolved Question: When does a data-link layer frame use the Type/Length format?

An IP packet has a hexadecimal value of 0800 (decimal 2048) in the header Length field of an Ethernet frame. My book says that when the frame contains an IP packet as the data field, the type of frame used is the Type/Length field format of frame (consisting of 802.3 Header + 802.2 LLC Header + SNAP Header). Ok, fine. But then the book says this type of Frame format is used ONLY if the Length packet is LESS than hex 0600 (decimal 1536). This is a contradiction, as the IP packet is 0800 (2048). Anyone? more

Voting Question: Now my sweet female cat is avoiding, ignoring and running away from me. What do I do?

I asked a question about my 2 female cats hissing at the male (yes! they r all fixed) and when it will stop! Many of you were kind enough to give me very valuable answers. Now that my male cat has returned (for less than a week now) the hissing has not been as frequent. HOWEVER, the problem I am having now is that my sweet angel female cat is ignoring me, running away from me and wont come to me when I call her. I have to go find her and pick her up and pet her. She no longer purrs when I pet her. She was always my special lap cat and would always seek me out to sit on my lap, sleep with me or seemingly always need/want to be near me. The story is this: I rescued a mother manx cat when she placed her five kittens on my patio three years ago. I adopted her (she was feral) and two of her babies. Just as soon as it was safe for them I had them all fixed (neutered/spayed). The Mommie kitty was feral and it took me two years to get her fully domesticated...although there are still times when she acts out if she doesnt get her way. I say she was feral but I may not be using the term: Feral in the most appropriate way. She may have been living with a family, and if so, I suspect they did not treat her well. She was reintroduced to the wild and when I found her she was very anti-social. As of now, however, the mommie cat is a sweet girl and only acts out if she doesnt get her way (like wanting to go outside -- I have them all as inside cats now) Just as soon as the kittens were old enough, I had the boy neutered and the girl spayed and while I was at it I had mommie spayed, too. Their names are Chief (boy) and ChaCha (girl) and their mother is Mommie. I have had them with me now for three years and have absolutely fallen in love with all of them. Chief, however, slipped outside one night when I opened the door to go outside briefly. It was a ten day nightmare I never want to go through again. He was gone for TEN DAYS AND NIGHTS. It was aweful. Finally, he returned although I looked high and low for him nonstop. I was a wreck. I placed neon red signs all over the neighborhood and just when I was trying to talk myself into dealing with the loss of him he MEOWED really loud on my patio and we were reunited...and it was bliss! Then, that same night, Mommie and ChaCha started hissing at him. I didnt know to "reintroduce" him to the group (pride) as I thought they would be just as happy to see him as I was. Instead, they have shunned him, hissed at him and otherwise acted terrible to him. What I didnt realize was that he must be secreting some kind of different scent and perhaps the cats do not recognize him. DO THEY REALLY NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE HIM?????? Many of the answers I received from this forum were very helpful and I am very grateful for those of you who are seemingly experts in this field and have given me answers. Well, the hissing has almost stopped...but not completely. Now, my sweet angel ChaCha kitty is throwing me attitude in this fashion: She will not come to me when I call her. She runs from me when I get close to her. Yes, she is eating and drinking and seems healthy. She just seems really mad at me....now, her gentle sweet personality is not one to HISS AT ME, oh no...but she acts like she wants nothing to do with me. If I reach for her she runs away. When I do pick her up (and I have to get her from behind the couch or something like that) she barely tolerates me petting her and loving on her. Just as soon as she can escape from my lap she does. Tonite, for example, I had to contort myself in a twistie way to get her from out from under the couch. I sat her on my lap and pet her and uttered sweet nothings and such. Usually she craves my petting and lovie dovie stuff. Later, then, she allowed herself to stand next to me...but to be sure...just out of arms length. In an hour or so after that, she sat in the same room as me....again at a sufficient arms length...near the window. I walked over to her and pet her head and she allowed it. What on earth do you think is going on here? Is she mad at me? Her little human-like personality is seemingly punishing me -- ha ha -- emotional blackmail! Am I showing the returned cat (her brother) *more* attention than she would like? He *is* much more affectionate now that he has returned. Poor baby! I'm sure he was traumatized while he was lost for 10 days. Somehow, I have to give all my cats ample attention...and they all need to realize that I love them all. Yes, ChaCha is extremely special to me. I had no idea how much I loved Chief until he was gone for 10 days....and I never want to go through that type of hell again! ha ha. It was BAD!!! I was extremely depressed. So, yes...as you can tell, I am extremely attached and adore these rescue cats I have. Some of you are seemingly experts in this field -- and I would appreciate guidance if you have it. For those of you that want to more

Resolved Question: need help making friends in town and get over jealousy!?

Quick run down...I have struggled with low self esteem for many years. As a child I took much of the teasing I recieved personal although it was nothing more than silly kid stuff. I was never tormented. In highschool I went from friend to friend, never having any one friend for any good length of time. I had no "Best friend". I still see a few girls I went to high school with but I'm not incredibly close with them. (as in I wouldn't call them on a weekly basis to just 'chat") I would like to have someone I can call tio just "chat"...but I've been so out of the social network for so long I have no idea what to "chat" about. I became close to a hermit after high school and it lasted for quit a few years. I have 2 young kids who now preoccupy my time and they have been my excuse for a long time as to why I don't do anything else. I would like this to change. My daughter is almost 7 and will be in first grade next fall. I have met some parents of her classmates and I do like them but I ma so afraid to let anyone into my life. We do not have alot of money. We don't have the typical life that most of the families in our small town has. Everyone knows each other. Many of the parents are well off and have nice homes. My husband and I are struggling big time...I know others are probably struggling in their own ways...but how I see it...is..I'd rather look like I have money and struggle..then look dirt poor and be poor. Its awful to think this way, but I can't help it. We are younger than most of the families in our town too. I'm 30 and my husband is 33. We started out on the wrong foot by getting pregnant 2 months after we dated (lucky I found the right guy to get knocked up with!) Hes' also in the military and our family has always been unsettled to say the least. Stability has been hard to accomplish with his depolyments. Hes' National Guard so luckily the whole family doesn't have to uproot and move, just him...but none the less still a big stress. Because of military he hasn't been able to hold a steady job (also because of a lack of knowing what he wanted to do with his life) He finally has a job in a field that he wants to continue for the rest of his life in some way, he has the ability to climb...but its' going to take some time before we see any major changes. We rent a house and we are happy being in this town. I want to make friends in this town but my worry over what other people are thinking about me is hindering my social life. I'm embarrassed to invite people over because of what our house looks like...its a ranch and the landlord has decorated it and we can't do much to change it so its more asthetically pleasing to me anyway. Everyone else has these nice 450,000 = big homes, get their nails done, the moms don't work, if they do its part time because their husbands make enough...I need to get over this problem I have. How do I? What do I talk to these people about? I'm sure they are nice and don't really care about what I have...Im just feeling kind of down right now I guess with all the financial troubles that lay ahead and seem to have no end in sight! What do I do? How do I stop feeling this...jealousy I guess. I guess thats what it is..I'm very envious of these people and how simple their lives look.I know I'm whining and crying like a baby...but I guess thats just my stress and frustration from what I have to deal with day in and day out working full time and dealing with real life. I guess everyone has the right to sound off every now and again... so just help me figure out how to stop feeling inadequate around these ladies so I can make friends!!! more

Resolved Question: Physics Electric Fields?

Resolved Question: How Can I Fight This Minor Traffic Ticket.?

I was charged on October 2, 2008 for speeding. I was apparently doing 61 in a 40 although the officer decided to knock it down to 55 in a 40. (KMPH) not MPH I disagree with this charge because I was new to the area I had just moved here only been in town for a few days, now the street I was on was a pretty heavy traffic street, and traffic was all moving at the same pace now there had been a school yard tucked over off the road hidden behind a large field. I was unaware of the reduced speed zone and was pulled over. (The street's normal speed limit is marked with 50 kmph but there is that short strip of school zone about 300 meters in length where it had been reduced) Now I received my notice of trial on March 23 2009 and was issued the court date of June 24th 2009. Now under section 11 B of the charter of rights and freedoms it states "Any person charged with an offence has the right to be tried within a reasonable time;" now I understand that there is no set date but according to past cases for minor traffic infractions this "reasonable" time frame is considered 8 months. So I will be appearing to court on the 24th, I may attempt to reschedule it to a later date due to my work schedule conflicting.. Will rescheduling it dismiss my "reasonable time frame" right... and how do I play that card to my advantage? many places state of your trial is more then 8 months away I have a very good chance... a very good chance of what? the officer not showing? the court dismissing it on the court date? do I still have to attend? should I bring past cases of trials dismissed for a lengthy wait period and where can I find such documents, I have tried Canlii but its difficult to navigate. Please help me clarify what must be done so I can be fully prepared when I walk into the court room. Thanks more

Voting Question: English 11 Quiz HELP!!!!!?

Guides know about enough English to tangle everything up so that a man can make neither head nor tail of it. They know their story by heart—the history of every statue, painting, cathedral, or other wonder they show you. They know it and tell it as a parrot would—and if you interrupt, and throw them off the track they have to go back and begin over again. All their lives long, they are employed in showing strange things to foreigners, and listening to their bursts of admiration. It is human nature to take delight in exciting admiration. It is what prompts children to say "smart" things, and do absurd ones, and in other ways "show off" when company is present. It is what makes gossips turn out in rain and storm to go and be the first to tell a startling bit of news. Think, then what a passion it becomes with a guide, whose privilege it is, everyday, to show to strangers wonders that throw them into perfect ecstasies of admiration! He gets so that he could not by any possibility live in a soberer atmosphere. After we discovered this, we never went into ecstasies any more—we never admired anything—we never showed any but impassible faces and stupid indifference in the presence of the sublimest wonders a guide had to display. from The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain 1. How might a reader challenge the author's text in this selection? (1 point) Evaluate Twain's choice of words in the selection. Compare Twain's opinion with that of others who have employed guides. Evaluate Twain's evidence for the assertion. 3. What is one aspect of the author's style in this selection? (1 point) He uses a somber tone. He varies the point of view. He uses mostly short sentences. He uses exaggeration to add humor. 4. What detail does the author use to support his philosophy that humans "take delight in exciting admiration"? Then, answer the questions that follow. The morns are meeker than they were, The nuts are getting brown; The berry's cheek is plumper, The rose is out of town. Resolved Question: I just found a baby bird and need to identify it.?

Um, I was walking my dog today at about 5:45 pm when I found a tiny bird in a field. It's about two inches in length with gray, downy feathers. I think it might be a baby Blue Jay, but I'm not sure. I already got information on caring for it but was wondering if anyone could help me identify it's species and age. I can send pictures of it! Please, I'm so worried it'll die if I don't get the proper info. more

Resolved Question: php / mysql update for multiple values in only one field?

I have a table (say table name TBL fields FLD1, FLD2, FLD3) with existing data in it. I've recently added another field to it - FLD4. What I'm trying to do is to insert values into that new field only... for multiple records (about 1000). I'm trying to accomplish this with two arrays, but it's not working. Here is what I'm doing... in php: arrrayOfValues = array(); arrayOfValuesToUpdate = array(); // Both arrays have values in them... they're both equal in length... for($i=0; $i<count(arrayOfValues); $i++){ $result = myslq_query(UPDATE TBL SET FLD4='arrayOfValuesToUpdate[$i]' WHERE FLD1='arrayOfValues[$i]'); } I'm not sure if that should even work for that many records... Any ideas? :) Thanks! It also looks like the queries are correct. From print $SQL: UPDATE TBL SET FLD4 ='CEO' WHERE FLD1 ='11-1011.00'... etc etc... I've got about a thousand of those for each query, but db is not being updated. Hmmm...Thanks for the answers so far... FLD1 is the primary key. Nothing doing just yet... :)Of course... problem solved :) Ummm... the table name was misspelled :) Thanks so much for your help! more

Voting Question: (Boys Please...optional)Does he like me?

This boy...T.J. Riley goes to my church and school. We recently went on a field trip and he asked me who I liked! I didn't want to tell him that i liked him but he guessed i did.So i told him my other crushes and he asked why he wasn't on my list(he was,i just didn't tell him) and i didn't answer. So he said"why don't you just say it,i know you do,i just want to hear ya say it!" I said nothing cause we had to leave for worship service! All that week,he kept asking me questions. Then,on our way home,i stuck my hand between the bus seats and he asked what was wrong(my hand just hung there between my friend chance and him) i didn't say anything and kept blowing on and saying"I know...Why don't you just tell me!" Then he just whispered to me "Do you want me to kiss you?" I said nothing. "1 finger for hand 2 for lips!"he said and i tried to show 2 but couldn't show my feelings to him so i shrugged my shoulders"i don't know"and said"you pick" then he said"really...okay...I'll show you when we get home!" and so far,he hasn't said anything about "us" He told everyone he was gonna break up with his girlfriend. !!!!!!SORRY FOR THE LENGTH!!!!! So does he like me? What's gonna be his next move? is it safe to ask him out without humiliating myself? how do you relate to him? will this make our relationship difficult? Voting Question: Did The 32 Pounder Gun have a L/50 barrel length the same as 3.7 Inch?(94mm Gun).?

I know the 32 Pounder was developed from the British 3.7 inch AA L/50 Gun, but comparing the 2 guns in pictures below, 32 Pounder looks more slender and Longer the 3.7" AA Gun. Does anyone know the comparisons between both weapons. The AC Tank designers in Australia considered using adapting the 3.7" AA Gun for use instead of 17 Pounder. Although 17 Pounder was a great gun and Adequate for Sentinel. ( I've Seen a AC1 Up close and seemed a lot of tank for a 2 Pounder ATG. Isn't it funny how tanks look different in person.) It seems strange to me that no Commonwealth Country adopted the 32 pounder Gun or try to lengthen the 25 Pounder Field Gun for Tank on Tank use (I'm not talking about the Super Charge used to take on tanks.) as well as it's excellent HE capability. They would've had to have made 1 Part ammunition instead of having the Head and Propellant rammed home seperatly. The other options open to the AC Tanks were 6 Pounder guns (AC2 Design but not available), 18 Inch Field Gun (obsolete WW1 Weapon), 25 Pounder Field gun (Used in AC3 Thunderbolt Close support Tank), 76mm and 90mm US ATG were available later on. Resolved Question: why does this happen to me in this class?

I am enrolled in a cosmetology course with students age 18-33 and from many backgrounds. They have worked together for 3-6 months in different modules of the course which is 1 year in length. I started fresh in April . There are 11 students in the class in cluding myself . At any one time there are about 7 students or so. Everytime I sit alone and if I sit next to someone, the person gets up and moves. If I start to talk to someone and say "Hello ...." the conversation goes low key and dead. When we have a 20 min break , they head together for a chat group in a circle or they go to the store in a group 0f 4 -5 and return and sit in a circle. If I try to join them, the conversation is silence. When I need a partner to work with for a class exercise, they are already parnered up and even if they are not ...they are waiting for someone to include them in a group of 3. I AM ALWAYS ALONE. At first it bothered me and I got very upset and asked what is goin "on" but nonone answered and I made a fool of myself. I approached the owner of the private school to discuss it and she said ,"UNTIL YOU CAME HERE MY SCHOOL WAS FINE". She has taken no interest in solving the problem. I cannot change school as I am under a EI program and this is the school that accepts payments from the gov't. The gov't is not inspecting the way this school is run. Theyhave an agreement withthe gov't and the owner is suppose to have 24 years of experience in the field , but NO TEACHING EXPERIENCE. Loves material things and getting rich. Italian and old country Italy mentality of hard work with your hands. Those days are gone. I need to repect the people I work with and study with. I do not repect these people at all and dislike the attitude the students have , but I am still with a friend in the school and have been there for 2 1/2 months now. Why is it that these students are not letting me into their world at large??? more

Resolved Question: What do you think about this article?

This professor has hit a bullseye with this.... History Unfolding I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books on history that have been published in six languages, and I have studied history all my life. I have come to think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is simply a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus. Something of historic proportions is happening.. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it.. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten to fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two. We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why? We learned just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has "loaned" two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine.. And that is three times the $700 billion we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of "we the people," who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not. We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why? We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why? We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it simply wants marriage to remain defined as between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?) We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose? Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government. Our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and I know precisely what I am talking about) - the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth.. It is potentially 1929 x ten... And we are at war with an enemy we cannot even name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who, in turn, cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so. And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla , Alaska . All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh, of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe is more important.) Mr. Obama's winning platform can be boiled down to one word: Change. Why? I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now. This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life.. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again. And that is only the beginning.. As a serious student of history, I thought I would never come to experience what the ordinary, moral German must have felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the "savior" was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they should have known was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory. Conservative "losers" readit right now. And there were the promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and frowned and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his "brown shirts" would bully and beat them into submission. Which they did - regularly. And then, he was duly elected to office, while a full-throttled economic crisis bloomed at hand - the Great Depression. Slowly, but surely he seized the controls of government power, person by person, department by department, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The children of German citizens were at first, encouraged to join a Youth Movement in his name where they were taught exactly what to think. Later, they were required to do so. No Jews of course, How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun controAs a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.. I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it. I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am. Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections. David Kaiser Jamestown , Rhode Island United Stateshealth care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe , and across the world. He did it with a compliant media - did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and ...... .. .. change. And the people surely got what they voted for If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It's all there in the history books.. So read your history books. Many people of conscience objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and ridiculed. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to. more

Resolved Question: Can you prove these reasons wrong?

Yessum, about 2012. I'm not saying it will happen, or saying it won't But if you have more reasons than these, or you can prove these are wrong, please do. Yes I skipped number 4: 1. Mayan Calendar The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things: Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and Sacrificing Virgins. Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well. 2. Sun Storms Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012 3. The Atom Smasher Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball. 5. Super Volcano Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang. 6. The Physicists This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs. 7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG! We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.I'm not worrying about it o.0 I'm not even saying it'll happen; I'm simply seeing if theres any arguments that can disprove these. more

Resolved Question: What can I expect going into the Navy as a CTI?

Here are the facts about me: My name is Ian and I'm 20 years old. I'm in DEP and I ship out September 11th for RTC, then I'm off to the Presidio mid-November (I think). I scored 94 on the ASVAB and 137 on the DLAB. I'm very familiar with French, Japanese, Russian and Chinese, respectively. Languages are a passion of mine and I chose the Navy for the opportunities in that field. If I had a choice in the matter I would take Mandarin Chinese at DLI. Those are the basics. What I want to know is this -- where should I be seeing myself a couple years into this? I know it's not going to be the same for every person, but I'm sure there are things that everyone has to do to be a success in this field. I'd like to target some current or former CTIs if at all possible, but obviously knowledge from anybody is welcome. I have a couple more specific questions as well. First -- what and where is the other training I have to undergo for the CTI rating? I wasn't sure if DLI teaches the technological aspect of the job as well as the linguistics, but I was under the impression that there is further training after DLI and before deployment. Second -- this is more for current CTIs, but how quick is advancement nowadays? Taking into consideration my personal interest in Chinese, and assuming I'm a hard worker and will at the very least do everything that is asked of me, is the advancement path pretty competitive? The reason I ask is this: at the moment, I'm only planning on this initial enlistment UNLESS the opportunity to either be a CTI Warrant Officer or earn a full commission becomes available to me. So I'm currently looking at a six-year active/two-year reserve enlistment. That's all! Thanks for taking a look at this and I apologize for the length. Your answers probably won't change anything as far as my direction at the moment, but I'd like to know all the same. more

Resolved Question: Physics- motional EMF?

Suppose the light bulb in the figure (where A = 4.47) is replaced by a 6.0-Ω electric heater that consumes 15 W of power. The conducting bar moves to the right at a constant speed, the field strength is 2.1 T, and the length of the bar between the rails is 1.2 m. I don't understand how to manipulate the Ohms and Watts in this equation, Emf = B* L * v Please help! THis is from my online independent study of physics AP, so I don't have a teacher to help!********* I forgot to acutally ask the question... I just gave information. A.) How fast is the bar moving? B.) What force must be applied to the bar to keep it moving to the right at the constant speed found in part (a)?THANK YOU!! I'm sorry that I did not post an image, but the picture did not provide any insight, at least for me. Thank you so much though for still helping me understand this! The answers you provided are correct! =) more

Resolved Question: Magnetic flux problem?

A single-turn rectangular loop of width W and length L moves parallel to its length with a speed v. The loop moves from a region with a magnetic field B perpendicular to the plane of the loop to a region where the magnetic field is zero, as shown in the above figure. Find the rate of change in the magnetic flux through the loop (a) before it enters the region of zero field, (b) just after it enters the region of zero field, and (c) once it is fully within the region of zero field (d) For each of the cases considered in parts (a), (b), and (c), state whether the induced current in the loop is clockwise, counterclockwise, or zero. Explain in each case. figure from the link: http://qaboard.cramster.com/physics-topic-5-56611-cpi0.aspx more

Resolved Question: Plant / reproduction / corn biology question. Please help me?

Sam asked Roger to look at some problematic ears from her field (ear A and B in figure below--link). She explained that the irrigation system had broken down in part of the field when the weather was hot and dry during a critical period of pollination and fertilization. She collected one ear from a part of the field with a heavy corn rootworm beetle infestation during kernel set and another ear from an area where little damage by beetles was observed. As Roger looked over the 2 ears, he tried to conclude which ear came from which part of the field. He knew that corn silks mature over 1 week or so. He also knew that tassels normally produce pollen before, during, and after maturation. Water availability during tasseling is critical to the total length of time that pollen is released. Compare the kernel set patterns in ears A and B. Ear B shows the result of "silk clipping" by beetles feeding on the exposed part of the silks. Briefly describe how a normal kernel set occurs in corn plants through pollination and fertilization. Then using the difference in the patterns of kernel set observed in ear A and B, Explain what went wrong in each of the 2 ears? http://i41.tinypic.com/120plhg.jpg This I don't understand. I'd greatly appreciate it for the help. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Can A Girl please tell me what's going on? Please?

I joined this team at my school, and it turned out that there was this really nice girl on it too. The team went on a few field trips, and I started to like the girl. Eventually, I got her number and I started texting her. She always replied, and we would often talk for 2-3 hours. During school, I usually always talk to her when I see her, whether it be small talk or a wave (:D). I realized that I really liked this girl, but there was a small problem. I also realized that she never initiated conversation with me. I mean, I always started the texts, and only once did she send me one out of the blue, and that was during her soccer team trip or something, so I bet one of her friends got her to do it or something. She does some of the signs that she likes me, like she always laughs at my jokes, even the corny ones, and I sometimes catch her looking at me. She doesn't really touch me alot or play with her hair. Tonight, I knew she was going to watch the game and I usually text her about it, so I sent her one but there was no reply, which was kind of odd. I also noticed that she really didn't say much to me at school today. I am just wondering what's going on, if somebody could help. I aplogize for the length of my story, I tried to shorten it as much as I could :D more
