Open Question: What are the little fish that swim along with sharks?
and how they not get eaten during a shark frenzy when tons of sharks are eating the school of fish? moreOpen Question: No fish food around. What can I feed my fish?
For the Fourth of July, our swim club gives all the kids free fish. So I just got home and put them in a bowl, but I don't have any fish food yet. In the mean time, what can I feed them? *They are just little pet store fish, nothing special. They are goldfish and some grayish ones that are pretty much the same. moreOpen Question: my goldfish and koi in my new pond do not move from the bottom unless for feeding and then they go back, why?
I have recently installed a large pond in my garden and have 2 pumps, a biological filter and uv clarifer fitted, the water discharges back from the filter via a waterfall and an outlet pipe on the surface, i have added 3 koi (approx 6 inches) 6 comets (about 5 inches) and a couple of small comets, the problem is that the fish just lie on the bottom of the pond and do not move at all except for feeding time, and after they have fed they go straight to the bottom and hide behind plants etc. one of the comets keeps trying to beach itself on a ledge and all of the fish look lifeless, has anybody any tips please, as i do want the fish to be happy and swim as fish should do. many thanksthe pond was cycled for about 3 weeks and the fish have been introduced gradually, the pond plants are all around the ledge on one side and 2 floating plants, but the fish seem to hide anywhere they can low down, the comet is a large fish which keeps beaching itself, thanks for yo help moreOpen Question: How long does it take for the silt to calm down?
Yesterday I pulled some weed out of my pond as there was too much in and the fish couldn't swim around properly. As we have a lot of silt in the bottom it has left the water all mucky, and its hard to spot the fish, the water does settle down. But how long does it take for the water not to be so mucky? I am going to get some of the Silt out soon after our new fish have settled down, but until then I am hoping soon it will calm down? I pulled the weed out last night. moreOpen Question: another male betta fish question, kind of serious?

Then I tried to him him a pellet he didnt eat it! What should I do? I know that the pellet has all those important stuff to keep him healthy. is there a newer version of Jeff's fish or something like Jeff's fish that swims around your screen while you are on it (not a screensaver), uses less memory, and possibly has newer graphics?Jeff's Fish download: http://download.cnet.com/Jeff-s-Fish/3000-2106_4-10051966.html moreOpen Question: I think my goldfish has ick/ ich but I'm not certain. Should I treat it?
I have 4 goldfish. I was watching them and I noticed the brown one has a few white spec things. They're on his gills sort of. Like on top of them but closer to his face. He's also swimming around a lot more than usual. He's just ooming all over the tank. I can't tell if the others have it. 2 are white (with a bit of red and a bit of orange on the other) and one is white/blue/black/orange and stays near the back so I can't tell. If I treated the entire tank would it hurt them? I'm going away for a week and my mom (who doesn't really like fish) is caring for them. She doesn't want to have sick fish. What should I do? moreOpen Question: Why is my old fish following my new fish?
Okay so the other day my auntie and uncle gave us four gold fish for our pond. Today I bought two more from the shop and the lady said that I can put these 2 gold fish in with my others after about 20-30minutes. I have now introduced them all, and when one of the new goldfish was in the bag one of my old one was always underneath it, now ive released them and the old goldfish wont stop following and swimming beside the new one? Whats going on are they fighting? moreOpen Question: A little help with my fish again :) pics included.?
Okay, i need some more help with my pond and goldfish. Recently my fish have been chasing each other [mating] around the pond, and must have laid eggs by now. Many of them wont survive, but a few will. I don't know if the fish have laid eggs, because they are in a big pond and its hard to tell. My questions; 1. I was wondering, would my goldfish be able to lay eggs in this pond ? http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu231/abbeymarshmellow/Icouldjumpintheremyself.jpg 2. Would the eggs be able to survive in these plants [ or are the plants not a plant goldfish eggs can live in? http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu231/abbeymarshmellow/Thefishies.jpg http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu231/abbeymarshmellow/Againrandom.jpg http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu231/abbeymarshmellow/Randomm.jpg http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu231/abbeymarshmellow/R-R-Random.jpg So, could baby fry survive in there ? I believe the plant is called Iris, and i wondered if it was suitable for fry to survive in. I would love baby goldfish, but what are the signs that fry have been born ? And how long will it take before they come out swimming ? 10 easy points :)Thanks nathan ! I'll contact you if I need any help x moreOpen Question: Gold Algae Eater HELP!? 10POINTS?

Here's what happened. My sister got a fish at Pet-Smart and it was black and about an inch long and about a half an inch thick. We got it home and it sank to the bottom of the tank for about a half an hour and then it swam to about the middle of the tank then it started to what seemed to be poop but then they started moving. There was about fifteen of them and after all of them were out the momma fish died and so did about six of the babies. Then about three days later all of them died except two. Then about three months later they died as well. Don't know what happened but that's not the question. My question is right when they came out of the mom (well not right after but soon after) they started swimming around. I thought fishes laid eggs that sat there for awhile then hatched. So what happened? moreResolved Question: Minnow doesn't seem at all well... what's wrong with him?
Came down this morning and could only see 4 of the 5 minnows we have, they tend to all shoal together so I found it a little odd. We searched the tank until we found him at the bottom among the weeds... he seemed to have got himself caught there. At first I thought he was dead but he was still gulping and could swim occasionaly... Now he just drifts around the tank or sinks to the bottom. Poor guy. Is he a 'gonna' or should I give him a chance to recover? I'm worried that if I don't take him out the other fish will fall ill... Any idea what has caused this to happen? We're both relatively new at fish-keeping and may have inadvertently killed him off somehow.Yes we have an aerator, we've only had them a week and are going to change the water tonight... the minnow seems to flip from being just a little lethargic but still swimming about, to floating aimlessly and incapable of swimming... moreResolved Question: I just won a fish from the Carnival? I think it's a Comet Goldfish?
I won it at the carnival today and my parents weren't too happy. Anyway, I heard it needs to live in a 20 gallon tank? I don't have that kind of money, but I don't want it to die. Right now it is swimming along the bottom edges of the container I have it in. I am working with a very small budget here. I don't have room for a 20 gallon tank either. My questions: How much does a 20 gallon tank cost? Does it need a filter to live? Can it live in like a 5 gallon tank? Does it need a companion(s)? How much do Comet Fish cost if it does need a companion? Thanks! moreOpen Question: I just got a Comet Goldfish I think?

One of my African cichlids was swimming a little slanted, so I removed it from the tank for about a week or two. I would feed it, but I am not sure that it would eat the food I was giving it. Earlier tonight I decided to move it back to the bigger tank with all of the other fishes and I fed them all. After putting it back in the tank one of my other fishes was chasing it and it started swimming slanted again, but I thought nothing of it. I come back to check on it tonight and I noticed that it was dead, so I am wondering what could have caused this sudden death of my fish. Please help if you can. Thanks. ^_^ moreOpen Question: Profile thing again :D What do you think about these teen, judging by their profiles?

okay so ive had this little 2 inch comet gold fish for a while now. i went on vacation for 10 days so i put in a 10 day feeder into his tank. today i came home and he was acting unusual. he wasnt swimming as fast and seemed a little sad. i just looked into his tank now and i see little white thinks that look like tiny worms on the bottom of his tank. i guess when i clean it tmrw i will get rid of them. my brother had them so he will help. but i looked at my fish and it looks like something long and brown coming out of the bottom of him. everytime i come back it seems shorter and then starts becoming longer. ive never seen it before. is he going to the bathroom or is it worms coming out if him? and what do i do to help him? moreOpen Question: Fish problems... help?!?
I have had a five gallon aquarium for about five months. In the beginning I had two male guppies, two african dwarf frogs, and two mystery snails. This month one of my snails and guppies died. I decided to replace them with two guppies, as I read that they do better in groups of three or more. I bought the two new guppies about two days ago. One of them, I found out later, was sick. It looked like he had a classic case of swim bladder disease, as the previous fish that died had. He died today. I put his body in another container, and examined him to make sure. I noticed little white worms, which I think are Planaria worms. I think the new fish brought them in, as I haven't seen them before. The nitrate and nitrite levels and the ammonia are good. I condition the water, and the pH is fine too. I have a little salt in the aquarium, but not too much, because I have a snail in the water. I feed the fish about a pinch per day. The snail I feed about half an algae disc every few days, and the frogs I feed several bloodworms per day. Please help me! moreOpen Question: My black moor goldfishes are laying at the bottom of the tank-Help?!?
Hi, my little brother has been begging for a black moor goldfish for a really long time now, so my dad decided to go out and buy one. We ended up getting 6 small goldfish, 2 of them are black moors. So today, he went out and got another black moor, but this one is bigger. This morning we woke up and the two black moors we had purchased a few days ago were laying at the bottom of the tank. We thought it was no big deal since they got up a few minutes later. Now, the bigger black moor is also laying at the bottom. When you tap on the glass of the tank, it will start swimming. Is there a problem with the fish? Should we get medication? Are the other fish at risk? Also the tank is 50 gallons. Please help my little brother! I dont want him to have another heart ache from his last fish. Thnak you very much! moreOpen Question: Were can I get fish harness?
I cought a rainbow trout and instead of releesing him I want to keep him as pet. I want to be able to take him out for a swim in the stream moreOpen Question: why are my fish dying?
i have found two of my fish dead behind the filter in the fish tank as if they have been squashed or swam up and got stuck! any suggestions? moreResolved Question: My fish stays in the corner and barely eats?
Last night I purchased 2 new gold fish to be put with my old 2 gold fish. I introduced them and they were all fine and swimming together. This afternoon I came home to find one (Archimedes if you want his name) in the corner away from all the other fish, I fed them and observed. The other 3 ate well, Archimedes ate 1 or 2 (maybe even 3) flakes and spit out some little pieces a minute or so later. Both the new fish came from the same tank at the pet store, but only one is acting this way What's wrong with my fish?1) I have 2 filters running, one is for my tank size (it wasn't working so well. It's functional but I'm using gauze for a strainer while the missing piece comes in) and a smaller one for about half the size of my tank 2) The man at the pet store told me I didn't have to quarentine them because none of their fish were sick 3) It is a good size. I have 2 gallons for every inch of fish. 2 of them haven't grown much in the last 4 months. If the new ones really start to get too big, I don't mind getting a larger tank. moreOpen Question: my dad has a fish pond with two goldfish.?
one of the goldfish is a comet, he is about 5" long. The other is a fancy white goldfish. he is about 4" long. The fancy white is acting strange. When he swims, he looks like he is vibrating, and he can barely move while "swimming". He kind of shuffles. Last night he was swimming on his side.... today he is upright again.. but lethargic and swimming strange. Last night there was a thunderstorm, and his behaivour started after that. The other fish is fine. what is wrong with him? moreOpen Question: Does anyone know of any lakes in nj that we can go to for swimming, boating and fishing for the 4th?
Hubby and I are looking for a little daytrip and maybe some fireworks for the 4th...Thanks! moreResolved Question: Do fish have panic attacks?

And she keeps pooing mad but i think that's normal. thank you if u can help! it a funny matter but oh well! lolThanks! sushi is a gold fish, she seems to have calmed down much much better! thank you for all of your help! moreOpen Question: All my fish keep dying! And I have no idea why!?
Okay, at the beginning of the week I had 5 fish in my fish tank (3 guppies and 2 goldfish, one was a Bubble Eye and I'm not sure what the other one was, but it was white with like blotches of orange and I just got it maybe a month ago). Anyways, towards the beginning of the week my new orange and white goldfish died, before he died he wasn't doing so good...he didn't eat, he wouldn't swim very much and he wasn't very social (he pretty much stayed away from the other fish, and the other fish didn't get close). Then late last night two of my guppies died, at this point I noticed kind of a white film over the fish. Also on one of my guppies I thought I saw a little spot of blood or something, but this particular guppy was one you can kind of see the insides of so it might of just been part of his insides...or maybe I was overreacting or something. I didn't know what to do and I was tired so I just went to bed, but this morning I woke up and my last guppy was dead. Now all that is left is my Bubble Eye goldfish, which despite the white film seemed to be doing fine but now I'm noticing his tail fin looks almost like someone cut it with scissors or something, and his coloring is turning really dark (it just looks like hes covered in dirt) in some places but like white in others. The tank itself doesn't look good either, it looks dark and dirty (which it didn't yesterday) and the ground is covered in what looks like fish poop but its orange (like almost as orange as my goldfish was). Now my Bubble Eye fish is just sitting at the top (hes not dead because hes still moving). Its probably too late to save my Bubble Eye goldfish but I just wondered two things: 1. What happened to my fish? 2. I will clean my tank out before I put any new fish in the tank but is there anything special I should use or do other than that?I'm not sure what sized tank I have, I think about 10 gallons maybe? Which from researching I don't think is enough for even one goldfish, let alone two, (sorry, I'm not really smart when it comes to fish, I just listen to what the pet store people tell me, who said that guppies and goldfish will do fine together). But I'm almost positive it has a proper sized filter. I'm not sure what it means to Cycle the tank before adding a new fish (like I said before, I'm dumb when it comes to this fish stuff). And I'm also unsure of how to get the readings of Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate moreOpen Question: my brother fed my betta fish goldfish crackers. HELP?
So yesterday afternoon My kid brother fed my Male betta fish those goldfish crackers. After that i cleaned the tank and put the fish drops in. and now today the tips of his fins look torn and decaying. i tried to feed him this moring and he wont eat. he seems to be swimming fine, but he is beathing more heavy, and looks a tad bit bloated. moreResolved Question: Agressive male guppies? signs of aggression?
I had a male guppy and i recenly added another male (this new guppy is somewhat larger than the guppy i had first) into the tank and now that they are together the bigger one seems to bully my older, smaller guppy, im not sure if he really is bullying him or not though. He swims really close to the small one and it looks like he pushes it around. Is that aggression? and what does aggression look like in fish?Oh yeah, LiT thats just halarious, seriously. moreOpen Question: Can Fish Die From A Broken Heart?
Well can fish die from broken heart? I have a few angelfish and one died yesterday , i found one of the other angelfish swimming next to his body. The angel wont eat , the others seem fine , ive done a 50% water change and done a few tests , everything seems fine. The angelfish doesnt seem herself , she is normally really active and happy , and really greedy. Now she just slowly swims , mostly around the place where the other angel died. Do you think there is anything i could do? moreOpen Question: Do you love your job? What do you do?
And how can I do it? College just isn't going to happen for me, I've been trying to make it happen for the past five years and I just can't. I'm not good with people, I hate children, and I hate teaching things, but I am strong and good at taking orders and following directions. I hate jobs where all I do is sit at a desk or just be sedentary. I like hands-on work. Jobs I've done in the past include: Lifeguard (hated it, just sat around all day and taught brat kids how to swim all morning) Wildland Firefighter (hated it bc they stuck me on the Engine where I sat around all day waiting for a call instead of the handcrew who got to actually do manual labor) House Painter (hated it because it was monotonous and not challenging enough) Restaurant Host (hated it because I had to fake being way social when I have a problem with social skills) Back Country Ski Patrol (This job is not as cool as it's name, all I did was hang around the bump house and respond to the occasional sledder falling because hardly anyone cross country ski's). I don't get it. Apparently the really fun, physical, challenging jobs are hard as hell to get and you have to go through years of training for them, like Fire Search and Rescue or SWAT team or all those damn professions that get specials on National Geographic as cool jobs. Jeez, I wish the real world were like the National Geographic specials because I'm seriously starting to think that those jobs are just made up by Hollywood to sell documentaries. Jobs I have considered doing and might like: Camera Operator (film/TV) Construction/Carpentry (Not management, the actual work construction) Working with animals (anything that doesn't require a degree?) Ranch hand Art-related field (I can draw anything as long as I'm looking at it but not by memory, but it seems everything art-related needs a degree too) High-rise window cleaning (I'd really like to get into this but don't know how) Bartender (dunno if I could do this because I'm not very social but I might be able to be a barback or something). Fishing Boat hand (again, no idea how to get into the field) Dockworker (no idea how to get involved) Oil Driller (no clue) I don't know. I just really want to be at a job I love. Is anyone involved in a non-sedentary job they love and if so how can I get in on it? moreOpen Question: Anyone else think all the hysteria about the python attack is moronic?
If you don't know, a couple of morons kept their pet burmese python in a fish tank with an unsecured lid, so, naturally, the snake escaped, and it strangled their 2-year-old. Since snakes only constrict things to death when they're hungry, they also were not feeding their snake. I read the reader comments on the story, and couldn't believe how hysteric people were being, claiming snakes need to be banned as pets! Nevermind the fact that the most commonly kept snakes are corn snakes and ball pythons, who have no records of ever killing anyone. 20 people have been killed by large constrictors in the last 29 years. Zero people killed by corn snakes and ball pythons. 33 people were killed by dogs just in 2007. Most fatal dog attacks are done by the family dog. And snakes are the pets that should be banned? I love dogs, but if you're going to ban snakes because of "omg think of the children!1" then, logically, dogs need to be banned as well. Sure, its not bright to have a large, neglected, hungry snake in an unsecure cage when you have a child about, but its also not bright to have unsecured cleaning agents, shallow buckets full of water, uncovered swimming pools, and countless other hazaards. Does that mean we should ban them? Four children died in the same week in that state by drowning in pools. It would save countless lives if private swimming pools were banned, and swimming pools are just as unecessary as a pet snake or dog (unless its a working/service dog). I hope one day the general public grows some balls and stop asking the government to ban and protect them from everything potentially "dangerous" out in the world. Guns, lawn darts, children's books made before 1984 (oh noes, lead poisoning!1), large dogs, snakes, exotic pets, alcohol, cigarettes, fast food, fattening food, violent video games, violent movies, Dive Sticks and countless other children's toys that are fine as long as your kid doesn't do something moronic, etc. When will it end? :(Whoops, made a mistake. Only 12 people killed by large pythons. moreOpen Question: discus fish swimming vertical... Help!!!!?
My discus is swimming face down (vertical) and is breathing really hard. The ph level is 6.5 and the water temperature is 86* f . Earlier today before i went to work, he appeared to be healthy and was eating well. Now he is floating near the surface, face down and looks stressed. What could be the problem? Did he have too much to eat? I also have nine other discuses in the tank that appears to be healthy except for one mentioned above. I would hate to lose him...Also how long does it take for discuses to get use to an new tank before they start swimming regularly? I look forward to your answers. Thanks..... T moreOpen Question: Help me create a weight loss program...?
Heylo there. So yeeah, I'm looking to lose some weight. I'm not that heavy or anything, just a bit more than I want. But I really know nothing about diets, so I call upon the people of Yahoo Answers! Here's the thing though: I'm 14. I'd really prefer not to screw over my developing body, so that means no crazy crash diets or anything, and probably it just helps you to know my age anyways. So yeah, I don't see any glaring flaws in my intake. I usually have Post Shredded Wheat for breakfast, no sugar/topping or anything. That's not even a new thing I put in to lose weight, I just like the taste of it anyway compared to like Trix and whatnot which is kind of disgusting. I think we have 2% fat milk at my house usually... anyway. I only drink water, besides milk for breakfast, which is something relatively new I've been doing: past couple of months or so. I used to drink a lot of juice, but I never really liked soda. I was able to give up the juice pretty easily though, so pretty much all I drink is water. For lunch I typically have a sandwich. Me pops gets pretty nice meat from the deli, so that's probably not a problem- turkey, pastrami, ham and swiss/provolone, etc. And then I usually have some fruit- some slices of apple, peach, banana, etc. I don't really have snacks in-between meals, except occasionally a banana or other fruit, so I also doubt that's a problem. I stopped eating crackers, cookies, that sort of snack thing. I was on Triscuits for a while, which were good, but I haven't been having as many recently. I dunno if that's a good or bad thing- I think they're somewhat healthy, but probably beat out by fruit. For dinner my mom usually cooks, as she's a pretty good cook. This varies a lot- chicken, pasta, fish, meat, soup, etc. I can't really give many specifics, because it is pretty random. Overall nothing that's incredibly unhealthy though, we have fried stuff once a blue moon, and fast food every few years at most. We typically have fresh bread (IE not package bread, baguettes and whatnot), and cheese on the table as well. (Cheese as in large blocks, not slices). I usually have a slice or two of bread- I cut out on putting butter on it though, just have it plain, so that probably helps a lot. And I usually have a couple slices of cheese. Maybe I should cut down on that. That usually lasts me until I decide to sleep, except for maybe a banana or something if I'm pretty hungry. Bananas are very convenient. As something to note, every Friday we order pizza. I imagine this is pretty unhealthy. Not much I can do about this though, except maybe have some fruit beforehand and just have a few less slices. I usually have 4, I could easily cut it down to 3, maybe 2 if I had something beforehand. As far as exercise goes, I lift weights in our basement every other day. I lift 35 pounds 10 times in 5 positions, so 50.. lifts I guess. I have no idea what the positions are called. But basically, 10 arm curls standing, 10 reverse arm curls (correct term?) standing, 10 lifting it over my head from sitting, 10 lifting it behind my head over my head from sitting, and 10 bench press (right term?). I do it every other day because apparently it's not good to do it every day. So if you could give me some exercises to do on off days that would help. Maybe leg exercises? Or something. I'd prefer them to be indoor. It'd just make it a lot easier for me, I'd rather not make this into a big thing and get my parents involved. So yeah. I could do crunches or something. I also have a trampoline: maybe I could jump for a good half hour or something every day. I also go swimming fairly often for a good 45 minutes doing laps. I'd say every other day to every third day I go. (1/2 to 1/3 of the time...days). So that's good. Maybe I could make it everyday. I guess that covers it. I do like video games, so I'd imagine the problem is more lack of exercise than dietary stuff. But still, any healthy eating tips ya got are appreciated. But mainly I'm looking for some good indoor exercise solutions! I much prefer to work hard for half an hour to pacing myself for two hours though, so if you have anything like that, it'd be great. I'm more looking to lose fat than build muscle, but I guess that's good too... still a second priority though. I can work on a six-pack later, now I just want to lose some weight! Er... thanks in advance! P.S. If I get one of those automated things that's like "TRY FAT-X- I LOST 20 POUNDS IN TWO WEEKS. CLICK MY LINK." that clearly didn't read my post, I will slap somebody. moreOpen Question: List of things to do while camping?
There's a lake at the sight were going to so I know Ill be swimming and fishing but there's really not much of anything ells to do. any ideas? moreResolved Question: Do certain lava rocks raise the ph level of fish tanks?
My two fish are acting crazy. They're swimming everywhere and breathing frantically, but everything in my tank is at an okay level. Currently, I'm cycling my tank and the ammonia level is at .25, but I use ammo lock every other day and change 10% of the water every two days. If I don't, the ammonia level will sore. On top of this, My third fish has white foam in his mouth and laying at the bottom. I already put tetracycline, but I don't think it's working. I don't know what's wrong. That's why I think it has to do with the ph level. On my test kit, it's rated the lowest at 6.0, which is significant drop from 6.8 yesterday. However, I fear that it's even lower, but not showing up because of the lack of range. I went to Petco and the workers were useless as they said some things that were totally untrue and couldn't believe they were "fish experts." One of the workers said that lava rocks can raise and level out the ph. She even pointed out that every tank in the store used lava rocks for this reason. Is this true? What should I do? Also, what are the fish behavioral symptoms that my ph is really low?Update: I put the foaming fish in a hospital tank, and it's actually doing better. What is it about my tank?Wow. Thanks for the great advice. (I always wanted to cycle it without fish, but my girlfriend was impatient.) The healthy fish in my tank died while the sick one who was moved to a hospital tank lived. Jesus Christ. What is going on? I thought the ammonia was neutralized with ammo lock and the low ph. I have very soft water. Is this causing constant fluctuations in ph level that caused them to die? Also, I don't want the sick fish in the hospital tank to go back to the main one until I do a fish-less cycle. The hospital tank doesn't have a filter. I put a bubbler in to stir the water. How should I care for filter-less fish bowl? moreResolved Question: help! i think my fish is dead? how do i know if he is dead?

Well, my brother is getting a Red-bellied Newt and I also want to get a non-fish tank inhabitant. I don't want to be a biter (someone who acts like someone else) so I decided i might get Albino African Claw Frogs. Would they eat the Danios, or would the Danios be safe because they swim near the top of the tank? Thanks for your help. moreOpen Question: Can someone help me with my guppies please!?

2. A fast fish can swim the length of a river upstream in 5 hours and downstream in 3 hours. If the river is 40 miles long, how fast could the fish swim if there were no current in the river? What is the speed of the current? can some one please explain to me how to do this problem? moreOpen Question: I think my goldfish is dying :(?
I had two fish for 6 months then one died, i cleaned out the tank and made sure the other fish was ok. i bought another 2 fish yesterday (a few days later) they seemed to adapt well but last night one of the new fish kept going into the tunnel (decoration) and sitting there and at one point he was one his side and i thought he was dead but he came round and was swimming about, i got my brother to check during the day and it was fine but when i got home this evening the fish was on its side again floating up and down but its gills and mouth is still moving, i took it out of the tank and it is still on its side trying to swim but failing, it also won't eat the flakes i give him and also added peas which he obviously won't touch either! do you think it will come round or die and is there any other suggestions?i done all correct water checks and changed 1/3 of water, and anyway i changed the water before i had the new fish that's dying! i've tried a few things and its struggling on! moreOpen Question: Do you get tired of people posting questions in their headers that aren't questions?
They make a statement in their title and just let Y!A put a question mark after it and act like they asked a question. Like "My ex wants to get back with me?" or "I have a beta fish that swims funny?". Does that annoy you? Would it have annoyed you if I had written my "question" as "People writing statements as questions?". moreOpen Question: Is a 10 gallon tank good for my 4 feederfish?
I believe they are comet goldfish the largest is no bigger then 1.5 inches and the others are about 1 inch. I know they will need a bigger tank but is a 10 gallon ok for them now? they dont seem unhappy at all and they have alot of room to swim in. Ive had them for about 3-4 weeks the lady at the petstore said they wouldnt last long so a 10 gallon was fine. I do not plan to put anymore fish in the tank right now all i have is the fish and a snail. I have a filter and air pump in it no heater bc my house is very warm and the water stays in the 70s moreResolved Question: HELP MY BETTA FISH!!!!!!!?
he is bloated, stays up against the top of the water and has trouble swimming, but his scales are normal... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! moreOpen Question: Need advice about my cold water fish?
Hi there. My normally healthy and active pearlscale is now floating on the top of the water. He had swim bladder a few months ago which was treated successfully. He doesn't look like he did last time. He looks almost doubled up and his gills are barely moving, but every now and again he starts swimming around the tank madly. He normally lives with 3 orandas who all seem ok but we've put him in a hospital tank just in case. Any ideas?Never mind he's died. Thanks a lot for your kind wordsThanks for your comment. We feed the fish on daphnia and bloodworm and once a fortnight on defrosted peas with the skin removed as i read that peas contain water soluble fibre that acts as a laxative for the fish. I also read that pearlscales are prone to constipation as a result of the genetic breeding so we've been extra vigilant. But it was our first fish and although we've tried to find out everything we can one can always learn moreOpen Question: How much would it cost to build a 2-3 acre lake?
My family has about a 5 acre space of flat land that we were thinking about building a lake on to use for fishing and swimming. We know someone who owns a bulldozer and my dad could probably do a lot of it on his own. Does anyone have a rough estimate of what this would cost? moreOpen Question: My retarded fish broke her back...?
So my favorite guppy thought it would be fun to act retarded, like swimming around the tank up-side down and trying to get food with her butt. She did that for a few days and now her body's in an upside-down U shape and she can't move the middle of her body. Otherwise she's pretty normal (eating, sleeping, ect.) I don't know if fishes can actually brake their backs or vertebrates or whatever or if she's just being even more retarded. I don't want to get her refunded just to find out that nothing's wrong with her. moreResolved Question: Cycling a fish tank..?
Hi, My little fish Emma passed away yesterday (Swim bladder) I empied the tank and have added new conditioned water. Do I need to cycle the tank? Or is it only when I have a new filter? Its a big tank and I want to add 2 goldfish! Thanks xx moreOpen Question: Betta fish question .?
I noticed that he's having trouble coming up for air. He would try and try, each time with a mad dash, but just when he's almost at the top, he seems to lose strength and fall back down to the bottom at which point he would seem to be out of breath. He lives in a good environment and have been since I got him, so what does this mean. I have noticed that he's been inactive lately but I just thought he was getting old, but this behavior just doesn't seem natural. It's as if he can't swim any longer. moreOpen Question: whats wrong with my fish..his gills move and he can move his fins but he cant swim .?
he just is either stuck to the filter or is being pushed around my by my bubble air. I just see him being pushed around and twisting from the current in the tank.
