Large Area Rugs Questions asked
Open Question: Where is a good place to buy a area rug?
I'm looking for a place to buy a large area rug for a good price. Store, swap meet, street vendor, anything in CA Los Angeles or Ventura county areas. Not a rug like your grandma's, I'm lookin for modern. i used to see a guy off the 405 freeway but I can't remember where. Thanks for any suggestions. moreOpen Question: What is the best way to clean a large braided area rug?
This rug is on a hardwood floor and I'm not sure how to clean it without taking a chance of doing damage to the floor underneath it. The rug has never been cleaned before. Thanks moreOpen Question: Carpet scraps into an area rug?
How can I finish the ends of a piece of carpet to make it into an area rug? My parents have a large, very large square-ish patch of carpet they had leftover when putting new flooring down. They don't want to toss it since it was expensive so they're giving it to me. It's a bit like shag but not as long and stringy. I think it'd make a nice area rug but I don't know how to finish the edges. Any info? Thanks!! moreVoting Question: How to keep a dog cool when it is outdoors?
Hello! Our collie/chow mix stays outdoors during the day when we are at work and INDOORS with us when we are at home and at night. Our dog is almost 2 years old and is well behaved and house trained but sometimes gets into mishcheif. We have tried in the past to leave her in the house if the weather is bad but after a few days of being in the house she gets bored and starts chewing like my oreintal rugs for example. Our dog loves to chase squirrels and etc so she constatnly sits by the door, which is her letting us know she wants outside. We live in south Texas and the temps have been near 100! We have thought about leaving her indoors, but our new puppy stays in the kitchen area with her crate and puppy gate, and we are afraid of her knocking the gate down (she has done this before) and letting the puppy out. We have a side door on our dettatched garage in the backyard where our dog has access to shelter, bed, toys, and etc. Do you have any suggestions on what we can keep outside or do for our dog to keep her cool during the day??? We keep a large tub of fresh water for her but she doesnt seem to like to get in it to cool off. Thanks for the suggestions! moreResolved Question: it's not a reoccurring dream, but a place that appears in more than one dream. does this happen to anyone else?
there is this house. it appears in my dreams about every other year. i have probably visited it about ten times. it is always the same, but slightly different. maybe the wall paper has changed, or there is a strange new smell or mood in the air, or i discover a new wing or hidden room within the house. the home has never been owned by the same person twice, rather it has switched hands between relatives. there are a number of bedrooms, a finished attic with floor boards, and a rocking chair, a trunk, lots of dust, a stain glass window, and a broken staircase that's hard to climb down. there is also a library. the library is what i remember most about the house. it's almost like i grew up there. i remember the wood floor, and an oval rug, there was a fireplace so huge that you could stand inside of it, and an old desk that i used to hide beneath. i remember the smell of peppermint and pipe tobacco and the stale smell of old leather books. there was a very high ceiling and a set of metal spiral stairs that led to a sort of loft area that circled the entire room. the walls were lined with books from top to bottom. in one dream when i was younger, i remember sitting alone on the second floor with my feet dangling over the side. i was hiding from someone and i had a snow globe in my hands. i lost my grip and the snow globe fell to the floor and the glass shattered. in one of my more recent dreams i walked into the library and found the scratches on the floor where the globe fell. is that weird? i also remember a strange doorway hidden inside of a closet in the master bedroom. if you were to walk into the closet and open a second door which which lay just beyond the jackets you would find yourself in a second room. you would pass through two more rooms (a total of three) and eventually come to a stair case. that stair case led to a basement. i remember that there were two basements in this house, one that was finished and furnished (this one was accessible from the kitchen) and was more of a common area. however this one was more of a cellar than a basement. it was cold and damp, with stone walls. you could hear the wind whistling through it's cracks. i don't think i ever had the courage to go down into it. does anyone else have a place like this that they visit in their dreams? it's hard to get there. i am excited whenever i do dream about it because it becomes more real with every visit. * * * my grandmother told me that when i was younger (less than five) she and i were on a drive in the country when i spotted a large old house. according to her i popped a very random question, "grandma, do you remember a long time ago, when i was the mother and you were the daughter and we lived in that house?" her story gave me goosebumps. but i'm curious, did my dream house ever really exist? was this lonely house in the country my home in a past life? moreResolved Question: Creative Basement Ideas?
We are looking to make our basement more inviting and warm. I suppose now you could call it "partially finished", but the reality is that it is very partial. There's one wall of what used to be old, ugly wood paneling that we painted green. The other three walls are poured concrete foundation. Two of those three are painted the same green as the paneling. The one remaining wall had paneling on it, now it is just plain concrete. We have area rugs in the main area, over old peel-n-stick tile. Also, I have a decently large section of the interlockable foam squares where the kids keep their toys. I'm looking for some ideas for the concrete walls at this point. I'm tired of how cold the concrete feels, but I can't afford drywall right now. To be honest, I've had my fill of paneling as well. Any ideas for an inexpensive, warm feeling, wall covering material or technique? moreResolved Question: where can i find large pieces of scrap carpet in san diego?
I'm trying to get a fairly large piece of carpet to use as an area rug. About 12ft. by 8ft. moreResolved Question: Trigonometry Review- Help?
In a book about Navajo crafts, the diagram of a hand made rug shows triangluar patterns with side lenghts 5cm and 12cm surrounding an angle of 50 degrees. A large wal hanging for an art gallery is to be made using the pattern but the triangles in the hanging will have an area of 25 times as large as the diagram. What will the measurments of: a) the third side of the diagram? b) the corresponding side of the actual hanging? c)the opposite angle in the actual hanging? *Please show all work in step form so I can follow through* moreResolved Question: this question is to anyone who has ever started their own venue, restaurant and or bookstore?
I was at a BBQ this past Saturday and a friend and I had come up with this pipe dream idea of creating a vegan/vegetarian restaurant and bookstore with a stage. The menu would be made up of mostly vegetarian dishes, (there would be absolutely no meat, no beef, chicken or fish on the menu), but dairy would be an option. The kitchen would be split in two, and the vegan food would be prepared on the opposite side. Please read my list of ideas below and if you could answer a few questions for me. What do you think about my ideas so far? What were/are some issues that you have had in running your own business? How hard is it to start your own business? Do you feel like it was all worth it? Forget the cost of space, (I know it has to do with location), but what are the costs of the permits, or any other legal "mumbo-jumbo"? Obviously I have not researched this yet, and it's still just a dream. But I want to know if this all sounds doable. Here is how I imagine it: You walk in the door and you can already tell that this is a place where creativity thrives. The walls are plastered with paintings and photographs donated by local artists. To your left there are a number of tall shelves packed with a large variety of books. In that corner you will also find four or five large and relaxing chairs pinning an area rug to the wood floor, and beanbag chairs scattered about the area. It would be a place that you could come to and relax on a Saturday afternoon. Grab a cup of coffee and a good book and waste a rainy evening sitting snug in an oversized beanbag chair. Beyond that you will see a stage where local bands can showcase their talents. (I also imagine the stage being used for book readings, poetry slams, and small plays.) And around it would be a spacious dance floor. If when you first came in you had walked to your right, you would find the dining room. I would like for the style to be tasteful and somewhat classy, but I don't want it to frighten away the everyday folks. So there would probably be tables and booths, because I think booths create a more comfortable atmosphere. The prices would be slightly more expensive than a trip to Mc Donald's, but not as costly as an upscale restaurant. (Imagine Panera Bread for price.) There would be two separate menus, (one vegan, and one vegetarian). Also, (and I think I would be the first to do this), I would like to create a book and make it available to any customer who is concerned, that lists the every ingredient that goes into our meals. I know that vegans have a very strict diet that they abide by, and I want to assure them that I have prepared their meals around their very specific interests. I would also make a "cereal bar" available. (I saw the movie FLAKES recently, and I love the idea!) There would be free WiFi available for paying customers, and I also thought of creating a sound proof room for local college students to utilize for studying. The restaurant could host a number of fun activities to keep the community active and creative. A few examples could be: family nights- once a month we could show a kid friendly movie on an overhead projector screen. Fright nights- Once a month we could show a corn syrupy massacre on an overhead projector screen =) I love a good horror flick Beginner’s yoga classes Writing classes/sessions Still life drawing sessions Karaoke nights of course We could host themed dances Book signings Wine tasting Student film screenings Clothing swaps- Trade in your gently used threads for some new style An art gallery- One weekend a month we could turn the dance floor/bookstore portion into a gallery where local artists can display their art. Holiday parties Game nights- We could host teen lock-ins they could moreResolved Question: Male cat who urinates outside the litterbox...help?
I have a 5 (fixed) year old male cat who will use the litter box 99% of the time for urinating and 100% off the time for defecating. He has two large boxes that are kept clean and in quiet areas. I've noticed that when he urinates outside the litter box (its only been on small rugs in the house), he will scratch like he is in the litter box. I caught him doing it last night in our bathroom on the shower mat. I don't think he has a UTI or anything since he is drinking normal amounts of water and is not making sounds when he is urinating. Any suggestions? His boxes are clean. I've noticed he does it closer to when my husband and I are getting ready for bed. moreResolved Question: Does anyone have tips for moving with cats?
I have two cats who have not moved since they moved in with us as kittens (at different times). The male is very skinny due to his nervous stomach (I swear he's bulimic) which results in him throwing up often. He has started throwing up far less than he used to but he still does on occasion. Yes, I have taken him to the vet and tried switching foods, neither of which really resulted in an answer. He is very personable and friendly. The other cat is a female who is very scared of almost everything. She is fond of a couple people in the household, coming out at night to be a total lovebug, meowing and rubbing up against your legs. She spends the day hiding in a little cubby space in the bathroom that we think goes into the walls a little bit. I have prepared a new space for her in the new house in another cubby-ish area, an eave storage area. I've put down some rugs and cat toys. I just wanted to know if anyone had tips for moving with them that might make the trip easier on them. We have a really large dog carrier so that we can move them together to make them feel safer. I'm also worried because we will have to leave them alone for around a week a couple of weeks after we move in. They are perfectly fine with this as we have done it before, but I'm worried about how they will adjust to the new location. Does anyone have any advice on how to make the transition smoother? Thanks! moreResolved Question: what color rug/couch should I get?
My new living arrangement will be in the basement of a house my friends and I are renting. The house is kind of older, so it's going to be kind of tricky finding good newer style furniture that won't clash with the rooms. The basement has gray carpet (blah) with wooden walls that have sort of a mix of green and light brown color. I know I know... sounds wonderful right? Here's a small picture of the wall and carpet : http://gaduu.com/Pics/wall_carpet.png Ok, so my dilemma is that I like more modern furniture but I am going to have to be really careful what I pick out or its going to look bad. I was thinking I could isolate an area by throwing down a large rug of some other color than the bland gray carpet and then I would only have to deal with the green/brown walls. I want to use some Orange in my color scheme, but not sure where to go next as far as colors of the rug and couch... What about a navy rug, lighter grey couch, orange pillows, orange/blue throw blanket, white or clear glass table... Or Black/white rug, white/black couch and orange pillows? Can I pull these off with the ugly walls? Any other color combinations that could work with orange accent color? Any other help/suggestions are welcomed. moreResolved Question: What is the best cleaning product to use over large areas of carpet?
I live in base housing and they check the carpet with ultraviolet light to see if there are residue stains. I need to clean my carpet, but I don't want to be on hands and knees scrubbing all the stains I see. Plus I don't want to miss stains that I don't see. Any good products out there like a steam cleaner or carpet shampooer or something? And I don't mean a rug doctor. I mean something I can actually buy and keep that really does work and doesn't leave any residue behind, especially from pet stains. I've read reviews on the H20 mop but some people have had problems with it and none of the reviews talk about blacklighting a carpet after using the mop. moreResolved Question: Need help with a basic geometry problem?
I had to leave class during the lecture to settle something with another teacher so I don't know how to set up the problem or anything. Suppose you want to be sure that a large rug is priced fairly. The price of a small rug (29 inches by 47 inches) is $79 and the price of the large rug (4 feet 10 inches by 7 feet 10 inches) is $299. a) What are the areas of the two rugs, what is the ratio of the areas? b) Compare the rug costs. Do you think the large rub is a good buy? Explain. moreResolved Question: How do I get baby shampoo out of my rug?
My niece dumped a whole bottle of Johnson's Baby Shampoo onto my area rug. It's a large rug, so it won't fit in the washing machine. How can I get all of it out? moreResolved Question: I have a large family room. I purchased a zebra area rug and I have dark brown sofa and love seat. I need more?
seating but I don't know if i should get some zebra print chairs to make it match. I was going for a safari theme but now i don't really know what to do next. The room looks bare besides the rug. Anyone out there with some decorating suggestions? moreResolved Question: How do I clean area rugs?
My family recently moved in to a rather large home that has not one stitch of carpet in it, just very nice linoleum throughout. I have bought some 5X8 area rugs and am wondering how to really clean them well. We don't wear shoes in the house and I spot clean with Resolve spray in the event of a spill but know that they will still get dirty and want to know what the rest of you do to keep them looking nice. Thanks for answers. moreVoting Question: House decor question, any ideas?
I have inherited my late mother's furniture and very tasteful neutral decor in pale yellows, golds, burned bronzes and olive colours. I love all her stuff and it all works together beautyfuly. I had my own place but now am moving and combining her stuff with mine. I have one dillema. I own a very nice couch set that is new and I love it, problem: it is red with a burned gold large pattern throughout. The gold matches the rest of mom's stuff but the red and olive may not go together well I don't think. Any ideas on how to intergrate these two colours in a pleasant, flowing way? I have inherited a whole bunch of wonderfull persian area rugs in olive/gold patterns, but am scared to place them anywhere near that couch. Should I just simply purchase a new rug to go with my couches, keeping all mom's stuff further away from my living room? And what colours should this rug be to joing the couches and the rest of the olive green/burned gold decor? Thank you for any ideas! moreResolved Question: Exposure to household chemicals during pregnancy?
So today I spilled red juice on my white carpet and in my MAD RUSH to clean it up, I grabbed the Rug Doctor stain remover and doused the rather large area. I opened the bedroom window so there was air circulation and there didn't seem to be a strong smell. I was in the room maybe 20 minutes. I also grabbed a cloth and scrubbed a bit wihtout gloves on...maybe 2 minutes, then washed my hands with soap right away. I also used Fantastik briefly without gloves. Could I have hurt my baby? I'm a nervous pregnant person. Thank God I only have one week to go. But could that small exposure have hurt the baby? I've done things like clean the bathroom with Fantastik and Windex (no circulation) for brief periods and as seldom as hygenically possible. Could this have caused problems? moreResolved Question: Websites where I can get cheap but large area rugs ?
Yo! My apartment floors are horrable tiles in the living and bed rooms and I hate it! It's cold and cracked up and ugly. Anyways, we started looking at area rugs but for the sizes we would need to cover most of the rooms we are only finding ones that cost like $1,000 - and we can't afford that - and thats at places like kohls and target, places I thought would be cheap. Are there any websites where I can buy large area rugs for cheap? Or could I even buy the kind of rugs they usually install but not install it? Where would I get that? At this point anything is going to look better then these stupid tiles! moreVoting Question: How should I clean urine stains in large areas?

I am so frustrated. My son was coloring on the couch, I walked downstairs to heat up leftovers for lunch. I was gone 4 minutes! Can't take your eyes off them, I know...I know. I get back upstairs and there are long lines of black marker on my less-than-a-week old, blue and cream, $700.00 Belgian area rug! I only mention this to emphasize the frustration! My options for removal are very limited. I have zero hazardous cleaning products in my house. I DO have vinegar, laundry detergent, dish detergent, Shaklee product, and little rubbing alcohol pads that come in first aide kits. Those are the only things I can think that might help, but I am terrified of discoloring the rug (especially since the spots are so large)...and I don't know how to use them for this purpose. Thanks for the help!!I write that I only have the resources I do...A. to give you insight on what I have to work with...B. to let you sort of realize I am not buying anything new! Thanks...;., moreResolved Question: How do I fix my area rug ? Please help?
My area rug looks terrible because there is a large crease in the middle of the rug, and the edges keep popping up as well. I have tried to use that tape specifically for area rugs, but it wore off within a week or two. I also tried bending the spots in the other direction, and that worked, kind if, but it goes back within a couple days. I really like this rug. Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution that REALLY works? Thanks ! moreResolved Question: How to remove old carpet foam stuck to wooden floorboards ?
I have just had a major declutter upstairs and am left with 2 quite large areas in 2 bedrooms that have had carpet down, the remains of the backing are firmly stuck to the wooden floorboards. Does anyone have an easy way of getting this up so i can get some rugs down ? Thanks. moreResolved Question: how do I stop the not so "accidents"?
I have a two year old mini dachshund (wirehaired because that could matter, lol) named Molly. She was completely house trained. We never had any problems until recently. Then one of our other dogs died, just leaving her and her much bigger brother Trooper. Well Trooper used to hop the fence when bored, thats why we got the dog that passed away--to keep him company. Since he was alone again my husband insisted on making Molly spend more time with Trooper to avoid fence hopping issues. I let Molly in as much as possible when I'm home, but when we're gone she needs to be outside with her brother. When live in CA so the weather is never really too bad. They have a huge covered run and large houses. Anyways. Molly has taken to using the bathroom inside. She ruined an area rug in the living room. We got rid of it and now she is doing it in the baby room. My daughter is 5 months so I need to get this fixed soon! She does it in the corner so it's hard for us to spot. How do I make her stop? It seems like she only does it during the night as far as I can tell. I can't catch her. She's feisty, sneaky, and moody so it poses a sort of problem. The issues have started since our other dog died and she's spending more time outside. What can I do?No medical issues. I don't believe she's just grieving. I wish that was it. The issues have been going on for 7 months. Gotten a lot worse since the baby. She is a nasty little dog. Huge attitude, can hold a grudge. Purposely avoid me for 3 weeks after I had the baby. I love her--but she has a huge attitude!! She has those nasty cat like qualities, so it makes things a lot more difficult to handle! moreResolved Question: How can I find this rug?
I'm looking for a rug that I've seen on TV many times, yet I can't find it anywhere on the internet. It's a large brown area rug and it has a huge white/cream hollow circle on it. Like the outline of a circle on it. I may have seen it on the Jeff Leis show one time, but I've seen it other places too. Please help?!?!?*Jeff Lewis show. I have only one small room with carpet, the other 3000 sq ft of house is tile or hardwood, with large area rugs in some of the rooms. I have a nonshedding dog and kids that track grit onto the hardwood. I am hoping to get one that picks up the grit from the floors well. All other cheap vaccuums I have just "kick" the dirt behind the vaccuum cleaner if I use it on the hardwood or tile floors. There are so many models, I am not sure what they are meant for. Thanks! moreResolved Question: What's with these dreams?! Can anyone explain?!?
I have 2 weird dreams that just stand out to me for some reason. ____ #1 ____ This is more about a house than it is the multiple dreams I have in it. It keeps coming up in my dreams and even my day dreams. I want to say it's similar to an old plantation house but It seems like it might be smaller (though maybe not). It's white with a large front yard and a gravel driveway and gravel road. both sides of the yard are lined with Osage orange trees. The house is white and aged with slightly chipping paint. It has a large porch that covers the whole front of the house and it usually has a bench swing on the left side and some wicker chairs near the door which is a screen door in front of a simple, thick white door. The inside has a large open space about the size of two average sized bedrooms. It had a stair case to the right that leads up to the second level you can see the little "crossing" between the two halls. (I'll explain later). To the right of the room is a large living room and connected to the back to it is a large room with a piano, a desk, and shelves of books in it. Behind the stair case is a door that leads to that second room. To the left of the room is a slightly large dinning room with an oval wooden table with six chairs. and connected to the back right side of it was the kitchen. You could get to the kitchen through the dining room and by the door at the end of the main room. The main floor has marble floors except the living room and library with wooden floors. The stairs were marble too with a red carpet going down them. The upstairs was hardwood with the same long, red "oriental" rug. When you got to the top of the stairs, there was a was the open space where you could see the lower level and two hallways. Each of the hallways had four rooms (two on each side of the hall) except the hall the the right had a bathroom. All the rooms are identical. It would be the size of a large bedroom with nothing but a large bed, a dresser and a bathroom connected to the left of the bedroom. The halls are usually dark. I'm not sure why. The only thing that decorated the hall was a long thing table with flowers under a some unidentified portrait of someone in the area that looks over the main floor. Why do I keep dreaming of this house? ____ 2 ____ I had a dream that I was the office aid for the school I was currently attending. They had given me a letter to deliver to a house. The next thing I remember is that I'm standing in front of the house and it was dark out. I didn't recognize the house at all. It looked like a newer two story house. Oh, by the way, everything (meaning the town, school, and people) are all recognizable to me except this house. I went inside and it was like all white with emerald green carpets. The living room was immediately to the left and it just had a couch and a coffee table that was covered in dishes, food, and wrappers. There was a TV attatched to the right wall across from the couch. Straight ahead was a hallway with about five rooms and a doorway at the end of it that lead to dark stairs. I walked down the dark hallway to the only open door, which was the last one on the left. There were two bunk beds side by side in this small room and it was completely empty except for one person. There was someone on the top bunk of the right bunk bed. I could only see their feet, an arm, and a part of their head that only revealed an eye. Suddenly, that dark eye opened and stared a death glare straight at me. I was suddenly struck with fear. I had never been in so much fear in my life. I couldn't move. I was only able to move when I heard voices outside and ditched the letter and left. When I told an internet friend this dream, they said that it was their house and I had saw a guy that lives there (that I had not yet met at the time). I thought that was really cool. But I recently found out (without their knowledge) that they were all fake and created by a pathetic little girl. So now I was wondering if there was some other meaning to it? moreResolved Question: removing sticky rug pad from wood floor?
Hi, After we removed a rug from our wood floor, the rug pad stuck to the floor. It was a room with a southern exposure and it seems the pad got cooked on the floor, from the heat of th sun in that room. The area is 8' x 10'. We used a putty knife, but some areas were difficult to remove. We also used goo gone, but it's such a large area, the white material is still stuck. We spent 3 hrs cleaning it, and now we have a sticky floor, with the goo gone stuff too. We tried using an abrasive sponge, and didn't work. Any suggestions on how to clean this? And also remove the slippery, oily stuff that Goo gone leaves behind? Is there an easier way. Many thanks!! moreResolved Question: cleaning rug pad from wood floor - pls help!?

I just started work at a day care, and within a week convinced them I could handle my own afternoon class of fourteen three year olds. Its going great and I love it! They have activities with their morning teacher, but when I take over, its just snack time, recess, free play (read chaos) then movie time. During their free play time, I've got to vacuum their play rug, sweep and mop. So, I need them to have a table activity while I vacuum. So far, I've just had them working on puzzles for this, but I can tell this is getting old! So I need some ideas for their table activities. I only need about fifteen minutes. Ideally, it should be easy enough for them to almost if not completely do on their own with supervision, low-mess (*hopeful*), at least a bit educational and Fun! for them. I'd also like ideas for some activities for them while I have to sweep and mop. While I'm doing this, they stay on a large area rug. I need at least 20 minutes, but these activities could go up to thirty minutes with no problem (I'm all for minimizing how much time they spend eyes glued to Tom and Jerry!). Also, cheap/reusable materials for these activities as much as possible!!!!! moreResolved Question: What kinds of activities for three year olds?

However, I really need more-independent style ideas as well! There are several of my kids that frequently request multiple story times. I always fit in at least one, but I really want to encourage this in them more! What ways can I encourage their interest in books, that they can do mostly on their own? They get bored of picture books within about a minute! moreResolved Question: Could this be implantation cramps/pain?
Hi, This is my first month on Clomid and I had a positive OPK on the 22nd. My husband and I bd'd on that day and also the 24th. I felt the ovulation take place around the 23rd. My doctor told me that Clomid can cause a bit of pain due to the larger and greater amount of eggs produced. I am certain that I hit my ovulation date correctly. Anyway, this morning during my shower about 8:30 am) I noticed a small cramp in my side (about the same area as the ovulation pain)--- left side. About 20 seconds later, I had to get out of the shower because I was so nauseous, and lie down on the rug. I felt like getting sick for about 5 minutes and then the nausea subsided. It seemed like the cramp brought on the nausea, but itself was not enough to make me feel so sick. I don't know why this happened. The rest of the morning I have been having small cramps around my uterus area. The majority of them are on the left side, but occasionally I get one on the right side. They don't last for very long. This is sort of strange for me because I usually don't cramp until I actually start my period. Never before. Plus, I'm not due for my period until the 4th or 5th of February. There are also no other factors that would cause the cramping such as bowels, etc... Can someone make sense of this? Thank you! moreVoting Question: I am looking for some advice on color in my living room?
Okay, brief description of the colors in my living room.... off white carpet with a sage and light tan area rug on top,3 light tan walls, with one white wall which is where the large picture window is, dark beige couch and love seat with green and beige and tan accent pillows, awful orangey-oak like coffee/end table and bookshelf, black tv stand(not entertainment unit just a stand) 5 white panel tab curtains. Again awful orangey-oak like computer desk. OKAY, question... we are doing a major overhaul of the colors. The room was just painted with the tan so that stays. I am wanting to sand down and paint the coffee/end tables, desk and shelf and tv stand(color advice please) and thinking of dyeing the curtains(color please). Advice is greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: How can I keep up with housework/cleaning?
I have a huge problem with keeping my house clean. I always set out to do it, but only parts of it get done. Our house is just over 2,000 square feet with 3 bedrooms (and an extra one used for storage), 1 bath, a kitchen, dining room, living room and play room. My husband is always getting on my case because I can't keep the house clean and tidy, but it's so hard to me. Also I hate it when I do clean and the next day it looks like the same wreck again. I'll give as many spec's as I can for a visual. The kitchen is big. It has laminate flooring, lots of counter and cabinet space (just not quite enough that my pots and pans fit nicely), a double sink, fridge, stove and dishwasher. It also has a bi-fold door closet. We have a table and chairs that we sit in the middle, but plan to eventually build an island. There is also another portable dishwasher that sits by the door. The problem in the kitchen is that the floor always looks dirty, and there are always dishes piled up in the sink, even though I do them once and sometimes twice a day (in the dishwasher). The counters always seem to be very cluttered with stuff. The dining room also has laminate flooring and nice antique furniture and an old piano. There isn't a real problem keeping up with this room, because we only use it on special occasions. The living room has laminate as well, with a large area rug in the middle, a big screen (65" rear projection) t.v. flanked by two glass-front entertainment stands that house DVD's and components, three piece sectional couch and two end tables with lamps. The complaint i get about this room is that the floor always looks dirty. We have a white boxer, and she sheds a lot on the rug and her hair is all over the floor. This room can tend to be cluttered from eating and putting things on the end tables, but that doesn't take long to clean up, and I usually do that at night before bed. The play room is a disaster area to say the least. Our three and a half year old daughter doesn't put things back where she gets them so they are always all over the floor. This room also has our computer desk, which we just got so all that is on it is the computer. The couch in this room has been serving as my husband and I's bed (pull-out bed) for a few months because our bed room is being remodeled. So every day i have to put that back away and then get it out again at night. There are three storage bins for toys in this room, but they still don't hold all the toys! And, yes, i just went through them and got rid of a bunch! Now for the upstairs... My oldest daughter's room is really her issue. It is her job to clean it up, and other than the floor needing vaccuumed all the time, it's ok for me. My youngest daughter's room can get quite messy. She has a doll house and furniture, about 15 bratz dolls and pieces and a desk up there. She also has the end cabinet on her old changing table filled with toys, as well as one of her dresser drawers. Every day I find myself picking everything up off the floor and putting it away again. Our bedroom is under "construction" right now, so it's pretty much n/a now. The bathrom is another problem area. The sink is always filthy, and I have to clean the bathtub everytime I want to bath my youngest daughter (every other day). It always gets scummy. We know we have a mold problem in the floor of the bathroom, and are going to hopefully sometime this year gut the entire thing and start from scratch (sooner than later I hope). But until then, there is always clutter on the sink, dirty clothes on the floor and just blah in the bathroom! That's the only way to say it. I am very good about keeping up with the laundry. That's one thing I like to do! I know alot of this is my bad habits, but I don't know after 5 1/2 years of marriage how to fix it. I set out to clean, but get one room or thing done and then go watch tv. I don't want to be a horrible housewife so if anyone has any helpful ideas, thanks so much!Would YOU get rid of YOUR tv?I know everyone thinks it should be easy for my husband to help, but in his mind, it's not his job. He makes the money, so this is my job. moreResolved Question: have you ever rented a steam carpet cleaner for area rugs?
I have two large rugs, 9 X 11. One Belgian wool about 40 years old, one dhurrie about 20 years old. Light blue and green. It's been several years since a cleaning, they are just dusty & etc. The rug place here charges more than $100 each to clean them, I'm thinking about taking them on the porch and using a rented carpet cleaner, then draping them over the fence to dry. Please answer If you have experience! moreResolved Question: How do I get this milk smell out of my carpet!?!?!?
So, I was stupid and left a half full large milkshake out over night. Sometime before morning one of my cats knocked it over onto the carpet. UGH! I tried to soak it all up but that didnt work so well. Then I used some carpet cleaner while continuing to soak it all up. Well, a day later it started to smell, so I went to the store and rented a rug doctor... Why I didnt just do this the first day is a mystery to me. Anyways, I used it last night (did the whole living room, why not right?). I even went over the milkshake spot several times. This morning I come out and the smell is still there. I used the rug doctor again, this time after pre-soaking the area with the rug doctor carpet cleaner. I'm waiting for it to dry, but when I got down and sniffed the carpet... IT STILL HAS THAT SMELL. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Thanks guys for all the suggestions. And would you know it Wass.... I'm fresh out of chilled blood... :P moreResolved Question: How do I turn a carpet into an area rug?
I would like to buy a large piece of carpet to have turned into a rug but I have no idea where to take it to have this done. I know it's possible and that it's much more budget friendly, since I'm covering such a large area. Is this a possible DIY project or do I have to contact a professional? And if so, what kind? moreResolved Question: What size area rug do I need for under my dining rooom table?
Should the rug cover the area where the chairs sit, and if so, should it be the larger area (where the chairs sit with people seated) or the smaller area (with chairs recessed under the table)? moreResolved Question: Need cheap, large area rug for children's room.?
We have hardwood floors all throughout the upstairs of our house. We'd like to put a large rug or carpet that covers a good portion (but not all) of our 13 month old's room. I've checked overstock.com, lowes, wal mart, target, and home depot. Anyone know of a place that sells them for a reasonable price? Something similar to those rugs for college dorms? moreResolved Question: How to decorate with wool area rugs?
I just bought a wool area rug (2' x 3'). It doesn't look good where I wanted to put it. Could I put it in a small powder room? Also, would it look good to use a large wool area rug over burbur carpet? moreResolved Question: How can I improve this bit of writing?
“This is awesome!” I exclaimed, stepping into the grand entrance. “Wow!” Thomas cried, rushing inside. I looked around at the green rug that lined the hall, beautiful artwork lined the walls and large windows spilled light into the room, there was a flight of stairs to the right. “Yeah, so don't break anything,” Dad muttered, coming in behind me. “Shall I show you around?” Asked a voice from behind me. I whirled around and came face to face with an old balding man. He was wearing a tuxedo that looked like something out of a history film. “Yes please,” Mum said stepping inside. The man made his way inside. “I'm Richard,” he said. “Follow me.” We obeyed and followed him down the long hallway. “This house was built in 1863,” he told us. “It is the oldest mansion around this area.” We entered another room. A large window covered one wall, and a table was in the middle of the room. There was a marble fireplace off to the left. “This is the dining room,” Richard announced. “One of the most beautiful rooms in the house, might I add.” We walked through the hallway and I looked around it in awe. It was HUGE! Bigger than our whole house! The next room that Richard (or Jeeves as I had decided to call him) led us into was the kitchen. It was very beautiful with oak cabinets and granite-topped benches, much nicer than our lino covered kitchen back home. “And this is the kitchen,” Jeeves announced. “Very nice and easy to cook in.” “This'll be a nice change,” Mum said happily. Jeeves smiled at her, and continued on. “This is the laundry,” Jeeves said, gesturing into a smaller room. Mum took a quick glance inside. “Very nice.” “Next, we come to the office. This could easily become a study,” Jeeves explained. “This is where I'll be working,” Dad announced happily. It was nicer looking than the room he used back at home, which was actually a large walk in wardrobe! A large oak desk stood in the middle and a bookshelf was set off to the left. The room was otherwise empty. Dad stood looking at the room for a while until Jeeves cleared his throat. “Time to move on,” he said. We walked out of the office and back into the hall. “This is one bedroom, that one of your children may enjoy,” Jeeves said, gesturing into one room. “And this is another.” Both rooms were practically identical, with a double bed in each and a desk. The next room that Jeeves' showed us was the bathroom. It had a large spa, bath, shower and toilet, it was gigantic! We walked a bit further and into the last room on the ground floor of the house. “And this is the master bedroom,” Jeeves said, rather proudly. This room was exquisite. The bed was four post and the biggest I had ever seen in my entire life, it had a white blanket and pillows laced with silver. Three large cabinets and a huge bookshelf lined two of the walls. Windows hit the back of the bed, making the silver on the bed glisten. A fire place like the one in the dining room was to the right of the door. “Now, we head up stairs,” Jeeves said. The first four doors contained bedrooms that were identical to the two downstairs, except they all had big verandas; one though, had a bookshelf. “This is my room!” I announced. “Why?” Thomas asked, wrinkling up his nose. “They're all the same, this one just has a bookshelf.” “Exactly,” I said with a smile. Thomas rolled his eyes and followed Mum, Dad and Jeeves down the upstairs hall. “This is the study,” Jeeves said. “A little smaller than the one downstairs, but this one has a veranda.” This was quite a nice room, with the biggest veranda that I had ever seen! The room was completely empty though, except for a fireplace in the centre of the back wall. “Next to it is the sun room,” Jeeves announced. “Beautiful to sit in in spring.” It was a big room with windows covering all but one wall. I'd like to spend my time in here reading, it'd also be a nice place to keep Sazza during winter. “And the last place up here is the bathroom. This one doesn't have a spa, but has a large bathtub.” Jeeves told us. I took a quick peek inside. Very nice. Three times bigger than our largest bathroom at home anyway. “Alright, well that's it for inside. We can go outside now,” Jeeves said over his shoulder, making his way quickly down the hall to the stairs. We followed him down them and out the back door, what I saw next amazed me. There were two tennis courts off to the back and to the right of them was a large swimming pool. “Yes, that swimming pool is heated,” Jeeves said, seemingly reading my mind. “Over there is the guest quarters,” Jeeves said, gesturing his hand to the front of and off to the left of the tennis courts. It would have to be a little larger than our house. Right in front of where we were standing was a large water fountain. I could see Koi fish swimming happily around in it. moreResolved Question: How can I gain my puppy's trust AND respect?
We just added another dog to our household (our first dog is just a year old, an 8lb female Schnoodle, well trained and very social). The new puppy is a 6-month-old, 13lb white male Schnauzer (supposedly full mini-Schnauzer but we believe there may be something else in there, too - quite possibly yellow lab, believe it or not)... Charley (the new pup) came from a kennel where we believe there was a multitude of dogs at one time. Possibly 20 or more puppies of varying ages, with several of them being older, larger and far more aggresive than he. When we got him, he was already timid and reeked of urine (but he was/is very sweet). Immediately, we took him to our vet. Turns out he has a parasite (for which he has almost completed treatment in the form of daily powder in his food) as well as now 3 puppy canines (one fell out this week) which don't seem to want to fall out on their own, even though the adult canines have come in already - needless to say his mouth is sore... You should see the poor guy try to eat (I have to dampen his food a bit)! Initially, the vet was so concerned by his lethargy that she didn't want to schedule any bloodwork or anything else until he had been with us for a week and been treated for the parasite - he's due for his 1-week follow up tomorrow... Apparently the place we got him from was not just [probably] somewhat dirty (I say probably because we were not permitted to go to the actual kennel - the owner brought 4 dogs out to another area for us to see) but these dogs had very little, if any human contact. Charley is afraid of humans, it seems. When my hubby and I try to appoach him, he backs away. When we crouch down or sit on the floor, he will cautiously creep towards us but if we make any movement in his direction, he backs off. He's never walked on a leash at all until we got him and it's a challenge to "catch" him to get the leash on... He whines periodically out of the blue (which could be a result of the mouth soreness) but we have yet to hear him bark once. We got him one week ago today and he has made serious progress at least health-wise. When we got him, he was lethargic to the point of falling asleep on his feet - something I've never seen a dog do before! Now he bounces around almost like a normal puppy and he is definitely more alert and seems happier - definitely well rested, too... Needless to say the potty training is a struggle as most of the time he's running away from me and will go on the rug before I'm able to get to him. I know it's only been a week but I worry about him - this behavior concerns me. The one bright light in all of this is that he and our other dog have grown extremely attached to each other - he moreso than her. She enjoys him a great deal because she finally has someone her own species and relative size (though he outweighs her) to play with but he is definitely far more attached to her (possibly due to the circumstances and his age) than she is to him - she is much more attached to ME! I am a firm believer in my hubby and I being their pack leaders but this situation has proved very challenging as I've never had to deal with a possibly emotionally traumatized pet before (he's much more fearful of men than women)... How do I go about reprogramming this poor little guy's thinking so that he trusts us and we can develop a great relationship such as the one we have with our other dog? He sees how we interact with her and I know that probably helps but I am pretty much at a loss as to how to aproach this... : | HELLLLLLLP!PS - I have groomed (bathed and combed/brushed) him and he seemed to REALLY enjoy that - he fell asleep in the sink as I bathed him!!! :)I forgot to mention that because his mouth is bothering him right now, he's not overly interested in treats... Also, I completely agree with the poster regarding temporarily putting aside strict potty training as well as pack leader status (to a point) until he has gained more trust. he's already so skittish, i don't want to further alienate him... moreResolved Question: Can i be charged to replace the carpet in my apartment when i leave? ?
Hey there, okay so here is my problem. I was cleaning the house today and i pulled back an area rug to vacuum underneath it. The area rug covers my dining room and part of my kitchen floor. There are two giant holes in my carpet underneath where the rug was, and also a giant hole in the linoleum that goes down into the concrete type substance underneath it. I can only think that my former room-mate somehow destroyed the carpet or let his dog chew it while i was on vacation, since he is the one who put the area rugs down around that time. I am afraid to bring this up with my landlady... there is nothing im my lease about this, the carpet was not new when we moved in, and had several large rusty colored stains in the livingroom area. I have a 500$ pet deposit for my cats, and i don't recall paying a security deposit. Going through my past checkbooks i can't find anything marked security deposit. I did pay first and last however. I live in washington state. I've been in the apartment for 1 year. The carpet was not new when i moved in. I am wondering a few things : 1. Will i be charged to replace it ( I think that this is a probably "yes" " 2. How much can i reasonably expect to be charged? moreResolved Question: where can i find a solid purple area rug?

Does anyone know where I can find a large area rug, mostly black with gold detail? I was looking at oriental rugs, but I'm not particularly fond of any of the ones I've found so far. Okay, so I'm being cheap! However, I saw these really cute pink shag area rugs on sale at Target this week. I need it to be larger than the 5 x 8, so I was thinking of somehow binding the two so I would have a 10 x 16. Does anyone know if this is possible? I don't want to use anything too gooey to join them because the rug will be going over hardwood floors. Let's hear some creative practical solutions that will work please! moreResolved Question: Whats a cheap way to clean carpet on short notice?
We have a puppy who has finally got potty trained well when he was going through the process he peed on the floor quite a bit and I thought I cleaned everything real good. Well we have two area rugs and he has peed a few times on those well I would clean it up but I didn't think that it would go through the area rugs on to the carpet underneath so now I have set in stains underneath the rugs. Right now I don't have the money for renting a carpet cleaner or people to come in to do it professionally or the time because I have company coming over tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning a large area with either home remedies or store bought products??? moreResolved Question: How can I get my cat to stop urinating and defecating on furniture?
My cat has a clean bill of health from the vet, so there is not an underlying medical cause. He urinates on everything! It has been an ongoing problem for 7 years. First it was on the bed, then when banned from the bedroom, it was the couch, we got rid of that, it was the chair, covered that it was the entry rug etc. The litter box is large and clean, I scoop it first thing in the morning, when I return from work in the afternoon and immediately after it has been used when I am home. We have tried multiple boxes, different types and amounts of litter, cat attracting litters, feliway, placing him in the box frequently (he will go when placed in the box, but will then defecate on furniture if his bladder is empty.) I have tried putting his food in the area, covering the furniture with foil, covering it with scat mats and he will just urinate on those items, they don't seem to be a deterrent. He has gone up to a year without any incidents only to start up again. He is on amitryptyline prescribed by the vet to help in case it is a stress issue, but despite that, he continues urinating or defecating daily. I am tired of having all the furniture in the house covered with plastic, having to sniff the furniture whenever I return home and spending a fortune on enzyme cleaners. My husband and I are battling over it as he wants to get rid of the cat, and I say you don't just get rid of an animal because it has problems. Any ideas or other medication suggestions? I feel like I have tried them all, read all the books and researched all the online resources and I have not found anything yet that works. I even looked into cat diapers but they are super expensive! moreTop Large Area Rugs Links
